Gulay Avsar is a graduate of the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, and has a Ph D from Monash University. Currently she is a Lecturer in economics at University of Western Sydney, and previously she taught economics at University of New South Wales and was Lecturer in mathematical economics and econometrics at Victoria University, and Research Fellow in Economics at Monash University.

Her research interests include the estimation of simultaneous models of price determination in futures markets, modeling expectations and volatility, testing hypotheses relating to market performance, and estimation of models of liquidity. Dr. Avsar has published papers on futures markets for wool, grains, live cattle, currencies, stock index futures and electricity, in international journals and in book chapters with leading international publishers.
